Description

Lower Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dated 1665, located in Over Compton. Above the front door, there is an inscription that reads: "Istas Aedes Restituit Refecit J.R.P.G. A.S. MDCCCXCII" (1892), indicating a repair. The building features dressed stone walls and slate roofs with stone gable copings and moulded kneelers. It has ashlar stone stacks at the gable ends and consists of parallel ranges over two storeys.

The facade includes three windows with three-light hollow-chamfered stone mullions, and a two-light window above the front door. There are straight dripstones above the windows, and iron casements with rectangular leaded lights. The north end wall has small single-light iron casements with lead lights, and wood lintels above. The front door is centrally located, featuring straight-chamfered jambs and a depressed-arch head. The door has a panelled bottom and a glazed top half, dating from the 19th century.

Attached to the farmhouse are front garden walls made of rubble stone with ashlar coping stones, which are ramped to the front entrance.
