Description
Maypole Cottage is a Grade II listed building located in Sturminster Marshall. Originally built in the 17th and 18th centuries, it was formerly two separate cottages and has undergone restoration in the 20th century. The walls are constructed of rubble ironstone with large quoins and a high cemented plinth. The upper part of the wall and the rear wing are made of brickwork in Flemish Garden Wall bond, featuring brick heads inserted as cambered arches above the ground floor windows. The cottage has a thatched roof, with tiles at the rear. The wide southeast front is two storeys high and originally had three windows, but the conversion to two cottages and the removal of the upper floor on the east side has resulted in an irregular elevation, now displaying two upper and four lower windows, all of which are casements. The doors are plain and have been altered from their original positions.
