Description
Granny's Attic is a shop and former cottages dating from the 18th century, located on Church Street in Sturminster Newton. The building is constructed of whitewashed brick in English bond and features roofs made of tiles and pantiles, with brick end stacks from the original cottages. It stands two storeys high with an attic in part and has a four-window range.
On the ground floor to the right, there is a 19th-century double shop front with slender columns that separate the lights and a dentilled entablature. To the left, there is a sash window without glazing bars, flanked by two doors; the door on the right is set under a segmental arch. The shop door has a flat hood supported by dentils on scrolled brackets. Above, there are four sash windows, all with vertical glazing bars, except for the second from the left, which has full glazing bars. The building also features a single gabled dormer with a two-light, four-pane wooden casement.
