Description

Springfield Cottage is likely of late 17th century origin, although it was altered in the late 18th and 19th centuries. It was originally two cottages. The walls are plastered and the roof is thatched, with plastered stacks. The cottage is two storeys high. There are two porches with gabled tiled roofs and ogee-shaped bargeboards: one has an old panelled door, the other a later glazed door. A stable door is located at the south end. The ground floor features three inserted 19th century square bay windows containing double-hung sashes. The first floor has three double-hung sash windows and three casement windows, all with glazing bars. A former stable is attached to the house at the south end, featuring plastered walls, a thatched roof and a stable door. Internally, a single deep chamfered ceiling beam indicates a 17th century origin, with run-out stops.
