Description

The First World War Memorial and retaining wall, located 50 meters south of the church in Thorncombe, was built around 1920. The memorial features a stone cross shaft and an octagonal base designed in the Perpendicular style. It has a panelled shaft with embattled necking, and a post-Second World War inscription has been added to the base. This memorial is part of a group that includes the Table Tombs, Royal Oak, and Thorncombe Farm. The retaining wall, which serves as the southern boundary of the churchyard, is constructed of rubble with stone coping.
