Description
Young's Endowed School is a schoolhouse, currently functioning as a primary school, that was built in 1861. It features ashlar stone walls and clay-tile roofs with scaling and cresting. The building has stone gable copings and a gabled stone bellcote at the right end. The front wall has a steep central gable above a slightly projecting central bay. It is a single-storey structure with three windows, which are four-light straight-chamfered stone mullions with elliptical-headed lights, and the center light is transomed. There are separate returned labels above the windows. The school has low single-storey entrances at the gable ends, which are carved with "BOYS" and "GIRLS" on the parapets. The doorways have chamfered jambs and elliptical heads, with labels over that feature head stops. The doors are made of planks and fitted with strap hinges. The school was built to accommodate the merger of the National School and Young's Endowed School.
