Description
The Dairy House is a former farmhouse, now a private residence, dating back to the 16th century with rebuilding of the south wall occurring in the 17th century. The building is constructed of rubble-stone and dressed stone walls, with a two-stage buttress marking the former east end. It has clay-tile roofs and stone stacks with moulded cornices at the gable ends. The house is two storeys and has attics. There are three windows, each a 3-light hollow-chamfered mullion window with a continuous string carried up and over; these windows contain 20th-century metal casements with lead lights. The west gable wall features a 16th-century window of four lights with moulded reveals and a label stopped. A first-floor 16th-century window has two cinquefoiled lights with tracery in a square head, with a label and returned stops. The front doorway, located at the centre of the south wall, has a depressed-arch head and a plank door, glazed in the 17th century. A small staircase wing extends from the north side. Inside, there are two late 16th-century fireplaces: one with a square head and the other with a four-centred head. A 16th-century doorway features moulded jambs and a segmental head.
