Description
Chapel Cottage is a cottage that appears to have three different construction phases, likely originating in the 17th century. It features brick and cob walls that are colourwashed, topped with a thatched roof and brick stacks. The building is partly two-storeyed and partly one storey with attics. The southern section was used as a Wesleyan Chapel from the late 18th century until around 1927, during which the first floor was removed. This section includes a ledged door within a thatched porch, and the ground floor has casement windows with glazing bars. The attic features half-dormers with casements that also have glazing bars, along with one earlier window with lead lights positioned high in the rear wall. An internal cross wall has a pointed arch. The central section contains one room on each floor, featuring a large open fireplace with a timber lintel and a bread oven. The northern section, built in the 19th century, is two storeys high with brick walls and a modern tiled roof, and it has a door in a timber porch along with casement windows with glazing bars on both the ground and first floors.
