Description
No. 5 The Hollow is a cottage that likely dates back to the 17th century. It features plastered cob walls and a thatched roof, with brick stacks. The original structure has a three-room and cross-passage layout. At the rear, there is a modern wing that also has plastered walls and a thatched roof. The cottage is one storey high with attics, and the front wall is buttressed. It has a ledged door, and the ground floor includes two casement windows with glazing bars. In the attic, there are two half-dormers with casement windows that also have glazing bars.
Inside, the 'lower end' contains a large room with a brick chimney, which is likely a later addition, and the roof appears to have been reconstructed and raised. The 'hall' features a large cob chimney that backs onto the cross-passage, complete with an open fireplace and an oak lintel. Beyond the hall, there is a small unheated service room and a spiral staircase, which is probably in its original position. The house seems to have a long-house form.
