Description
12 The Hollow is a detached cottage with origins dating back to the 17th century, likely enlarged in the 18th century. The walls are constructed from a mix of brick and plastered cob, topped with a thatched roof and featuring brick chimney stacks. The original part of the cottage has a two-room layout with a cross-passage, while an additional room was added to the south end in the 18th century. The cottage is one storey high with attics.
On the ground floor, there is a ledged door with a glass panel, sheltered by a pentice with a stone slate roof. The front has four casement windows with glazing bars, some of which include cast iron lights. One window replaces a former door that led to the cross-passage. The attic features two half-dormers with casements, one of which has cast iron lights, and there is also a casement window under the eaves.
Inside, one beam in the ground floor ceiling shows signs of a former partition from the cross-passage. The chimney stack at the north end includes a large open fireplace.
