Description

Preston House is a 17th-century farmhouse with significant alterations and additions from the 19th century. The main facade is constructed of ashlar stone, while the remainder of the house is built of flint and rubble with ashlar quoins. It has a tiled roof and brick stacks at each end. The house follows an L-shaped plan, with a late 19th-century addition forming the re-entrant angle. The front facade is symmetrical, featuring a five-window range. It has two-light casement windows with glazing bars, each set under returned labels. A circular window is positioned centrally on the upper floor. The central doorway is flanked by Tuscan columns supporting a triangular open pediment. The doorway has a glazed door with a transom light. Remnants of 17th-century stone windows are visible on the rear of the building.

Internal features documented by the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (RCHM) include 18th-century carved wooden fireplace surrounds. On the first floor there is a 17th-century fireplace with a moulded four-centred head and continuous jambs exhibiting run-out stops.
