Description
The Bankes Arms Hotel is a public house located on East Street in Corfe Castle. It was rebuilt in the early 20th century but retains some earlier outbuildings. The building features coursed rubble stone walls with ashlar dressings and stone slate roofs, along with stone end stacks and one stack to the left of center. It is two storeys high with an attic and has a two-storeyed gabled porch that is open on the ground floor, supported by circular stone columns. The ground floor includes a depressed four-centred arched doorway and has two four-light and one three-light stone mullioned windows with lead lights, all under hoodmoulds. The first floor has four similar three-light windows. There is a rear wing constructed in the same style. At the back and to the left are 18th-century outbuildings, which have rubble stone walls and stone slate roofs, currently used as garages and stores. The hotel is included for its group value.
