Description

Sturminster Newton Castle, formerly listed as the remains of a castle, is likely the southern service end of a former manor house hall, possibly with a solar above. It dates from the 14th century and is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings. The structure is roofless and has been affected by weather but still stands almost to roof height. Originally, it had two storeys and features a rectangular plan with possible remains of a screens passage to the north. There are also remnants of several archways and openings. The site is scheduled as an ancient monument.
