Description
No 82 Newton is a house that dates from the 15th or early 16th century, with likely alterations from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed of whitewashed brick in English bond and features a thatched roof with gable ends. There are brick stacks on the left side and two-thirds from the left. The house has two storeys and a range of five windows. The ground floor openings are under timber lintels, although traces of earlier segmental brick arches can still be seen. The windows are two- and three-light wooden casements with glazing bars. The entrance features a six-panel door, with the two upper panels forming integral lights.
Inside, the building displays two jointed cruck trusses that are smoke blackened in the roof, an internal jetty, a plank and muntin partition, and doors set in heavy wooden frames. The building originally functioned as an open hall.
