Description
Newton House is a house dated 1789, though it may have an earlier core. It is constructed of rubble and ashlar, with the north facade being roughcast. The roof is half-hipped and tiled, featuring two brick stacks located one-third in from each end. The building showcases classical detailing on an asymmetric front and has two storeys plus an attic, with five bays. All windows, except for the central upper floor window, are 6-pane sashes with vertical glazing bars set in moulded architraves.
The central porch is supported by Doric columns and features a dentilled entablature, which includes triglyphs and medallions in the frieze. The capitals of the columns are adorned with flower motifs. Above the porch, there is a canted bay with 4-pane wooden sashes. The house also has two gabled dormers, each with 2-light wooden casements that have horizontal glazing bars. The left chimney stack includes a date stone, while the right stack is from the 20th century. At the rear, there is a thatched brick wing.
