Description
The boundary wall to the west of HM Young Offenders Institution was built in 1848 and is made of squared dressed Portland stone. This very tall wall features a series of raised sections and runs from north to south for 26 bays, which are divided by flat pilasters. It then returns towards the Gatehouse with 2 additional bays, making the total length approximately 520 meters. The wall rises about 7 meters high, reaching around 9 meters in the raised sections. Together with the boundary wall to the north of Grove Road and the walls associated with the Church and School group, this wall is an important visual feature of the street.
