Description
Laurel Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the 16th century, originally designed as an open hall and ceiled in the 17th century. The building features rubble stone walls with stone quoins and a thatched roof, which is gabled on the left side and half-hipped on the right. There are brick stacks located at the left gable and along the right ridge. The farmhouse is 1½ storeys high and has three windows, which are 2-light wooden casements with glazing bars from the 19th century. The front door, located to the left of center, is a plank door with two top lights, dating to the 20th century.
There is a 20th-century rubble-stone extension at right angles to the left side, topped with a corrugated iron roof, which is not of special interest. Inside, the east end room on the first floor exhibits jointed-cruck construction with collar beams positioned just above the ceiling level and large cruck-posts. On the ground floor, there is a brick-jambed fireplace featuring a chamfered wooden lintel with stops, as well as a large chamfered ceiling beam with filleted stops.
