Description
Hemsworth House is a farmhouse that originated in the 16th century and was enlarged to the southwest in the early 19th century. The front wall of the original range was altered in the late 19th century. The original range features walls made of flint and brick, with the front wall now roughcast and smooth plaster window surrounds. It has a slate roof that is hipped at the right end and a brick stack at the left end. The later range on the left has plastered walls, a slate roof with an overhanging verge and bargeboard, and a brick stack at the left end with an oversailing cap and recessed arched panels. The building has an L-shaped plan, with the original range extending to the rear at the right end and consists of two storeys.
On the main front, the original range includes a 19th-century semi-octagonal glazed porch with a partially glazed door. The ground floor has two sash windows with glazing bars, while the first floor features three casements with a central horizontal bar. The early 19th-century range at the left end has two sash windows with glazing bars on each floor. At the rear of the original range, there is an added 19th-century cottage, which is not of special interest. Inside, there are some deep chamfered ceiling beams, raised panel doors, and 18th-century fireplaces.
