Description
Fernhill Cottage is a detached cottage, which was formerly two cottages, likely built in the 18th century. It features colourwashed brick walls and a thatched roof, with brick stacks at both ends and in the center. The left section of the cottage is two stories tall, while the right section is one story with an attic. The left section has a central bay that projects slightly, with a dentil cornice at the eaves on each side. There is an added porch that is semi-circular in plan, topped with a conical tiled roof supported by timber posts, and it has a part-glazed ledged door.
On the ground floor of the left section, there are two sash windows with glazing bars, set under gauged arches. The first floor features three sash windows with vertical glazing bars, also under gauged arches. The right section, which is one story with an attic, has three casement windows with glazing bars on the ground floor, and the attic includes one dormer with similar casements. At the rear, there is a single-story lean-to that has a roof partly thatched and partly covered with corrugated sheets. Inside, one of the ground floor rooms contains a large open fireplace with a timber lintel and a bread oven.
