Description
The Malt House, which includes attached outbuildings at the rear, is a farmhouse now divided into two units. It likely dates from the early 18th century, although the main front range may be slightly later. The building features brick walls with some burnt headers on the front elevation and a hipped thatched roof, with brick stacks that have oversailing caps positioned irregularly. The front range is two storeys tall, while the rear ranges are one storey with attics.
The layout consists of a main front range and two adjoining rear ranges that have parallel roofs and a central valley. On the main front elevation, the left section has a plat band at the first floor level and brick buttresses. The ground floor includes three casements, one of which has lead lights, and two with glazing bars. The south elevation contains the entrance, and at the right end, the front range projects slightly. This section has one ground floor casement with glazing bars. To the left of this is a porch with a tiled lean-to roof supported by timber columns, leading to a ledged door. To the left of the porch, the ground floor has two casements with glazing bars under segmental arches. The attic features two dormers with similar casements.
At the left end, there is an attached outbuilding with walls that are part brick and part weatherboarded. Inside, there are some chamfered ceiling beams, raised panelled doors, and hob grates, and the building is largely unaltered.
