Description

Milton Manor is a country house originally built as a mid-19th century cottage, which was enlarged in the early 20th century in the Arts and Crafts style. The rear section features roughcast walls and a combination of hipped and gabled slate roofs, with roughcast stacks. It is partly two storeys and partly single storey.

The front range has rubble stone walls up to the first floor, with stone slate hanging above and a stone slate hipped roof. It features four rubble stone stacks along the ridge, with the central ones set diagonally. This range is designed in an E-plan form, with projecting gabled wings at each end and a central gabled porch. The roof of the central section extends down to create a verandah on either side of the porch. The open porch is supported by octagonal stone piers and features a canted lintel made of stone slates set on edge. The glazed oak doors lead to a twin canted oriel window above, which has lead lights and a hipped roof supported on a shaped oak bracket. Each side of the porch has a three-light stone mullioned window with lead lights on the ground floor. The attic contains two gabled dormers with oak mullioned windows featuring lead lights. Each wing at the ends has a ground floor with a four-light stone mullioned and transomed window with lead lights, and the attics also have four-light oak mullioned windows with lead lights. The rear wing's central section includes oak mullioned and transomed windows, while the rear service block has plain sash windows.

Inside, the front range features an oak staircase in Jacobean style with heavy square turned balusters, a four-centred arched stone fireplace with coats of arms, and oak panelling in several rooms, showcasing an interesting example of Arts and Crafts design.
