Description
Hill Lodge is a detached cottage that was formerly a lodge to the park, built in the mid-19th century. The walls are constructed of flint with brick banding, featuring ornamental tile-hanging in the gables. The roof is tiled and includes bands of fish-scale tiling, ornamental bargeboards, and gable finials. There is one brick chimney stack on the ridge and another at the rear, both with oversailing caps adorned with dentil ornament. The building has an L-shaped plan and is designed in the cottage ornee style, with a single storey.
On the front elevation, there is a tiled verandah supported by timber posts, leading to a part-glazed door beneath it. There is also one casement window with diamond lead lights. At the right end, a projecting gabled wing features a slightly projecting bay window with casements that have lead lights. The left end wall includes a brick canted bay window with a dentil cornice and hipped roof, along with casements that also have lead lights. A 20th-century rear extension has been added, constructed to match the original style. The overall appearance of the cottage is picturesque.
