Description
Somerleigh House is probably an early 19th century building located on the south side of High Street. It features Purbeck Stone walls and roof, with brick stacks. The house is three storeys tall. The ground floor has a 19th century shop front with windows and a door divided by moulded stone pilasters, along with a moulded stone cornice and stall risers. On the first floor, there are three double-hung sash windows and one blocked window. The second floor has three double-hung sash windows with glazing bars and one blocked window. The return wall facing Maxwells Lane includes one double-hung sash window with glazing bars on the second floor. There is a rear wing that extends into Maxwells Lane, which may have originally been a separate house. This wing also has Purbeck Stone walls, a slate roof, and a brick stack, and is two storeys tall. The ground floor of the wing has a door and two windows, one being a casement and the other fixed. The first floor has one casement window. Somerleigh House is an important building in the street.
