Description
No. 3 New Street is a house in a row, built in the late 18th century. It features a front of painted Flemish bond brickwork, a rendered flank, and a rubble back wall, topped with a slate roof. This house has an unusual wider frontage and consists of two storeys and an attic, with four windows. Above the four 12-pane replacement sash windows in flush boxes with thin wood sills and brick voussoirs, there are two flat-roofed 2-light casement dormers. In the second bay, there is an early 6-panel door, with the upper two panels glazed, set beneath a flat hood supported by deep double-scroll consoles and accessed by two stone steps. The house has a high plinth, a small modillion eaves cornice, and gable stacks. The left gable wall is constructed of rubble for approximately 2 meters in height, featuring large flush quoins. Inside, the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England (RCHME) describes a narrow room to the left, a cross passage, and a transverse stair behind the room to the right, which also includes a semicircular cupboard with shaped shelves.
