Description
5 and 7 New Street are two early 19th-century houses located in Weymouth. They are rendered with slate mansard roofs and form an exact 'handed' pair, although they were built separately with a narrow alley between them. Each house has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with one window on the front facade.
No. 5 features a four-pane sash flat dormer above a two-storey canted bay with a plain sash window, complemented by a moulded cornice and flat roof. The basement includes a two-light window aligned with the main wall, protected by an iron railing. To the left, there is a 20th-century door set in a deep arched reveal, topped with a painted radial fanlight, accessed by four steps. The house has a high plinth, a plain mid band, and a plain gabled return to the right with a stack.
No. 7 is nearly identical but has a two-light casement dormer, and its former doorway is now blocked. There is a large flat-roofed addition at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
