Description
Nos. 38, 39, and 40 are a row of three cottages built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of red brick featuring a blue diaper pattern and have a chamfered plinth. The cottages have tiled roofs and brick stacks with ceramic flues located near the ends of the ridge and at the rear. Designed in a Neo-Romanesque style, they match the nearby St Kenelm's Church. The cottages are symmetrical and single-storey, with a total of four bays and projecting wings at each end of the range. The wings contain three-light stone windows with shafts and shafted jambs topped with waterleaf capitals, all set under round arches. Roundels are featured in the gables above. The windows in the central range are similar but have square heads. Each cottage has a shouldered doorway beneath a round head, also with shafted jambs, and features part-glazed doors. This design is unusual and remains in almost its original condition.
