Description
This mid-to-late 18th century house occupies the left end of a terrace in Puddletown Square. It incorporates a shop and a guest house. The walls are plastered, and the roof is thatched, with brick stacks located at the right end, to the right of centre, and at the left end. The house is two storeys and has an attic.
At the left end is an 18th century shop front with a moulded cornice. The ground floor has a pair of part-glazed doors with a fanlight, flanked by two shop windows with glazing bars. Near the right end, there is a recessed doorway to the guest house, featuring a panelled door and moulded architraves. The ground floor also contains three sash windows with glazing bars. The first floor has four similar sash windows and one 20th century metal casement. A dormer window is inset in the attic and contains horizontally sliding sashes.
A projecting two-storeyed bay stands out on the left end wall, with slightly curved sides and a lead flat roof. The ground floor of the bay is open, supported by timber Tuscan columns. The upper floor of the bay has a sash window arrangement, with a Venetian window in the centre, topped by a cornice and frieze. Two terracotta plaques are positioned under the window. Simple iron railings surround the bay, featuring closely spaced uprights.
Inside, the first-floor room at the west end, which is illuminated by the bay window, contains a shallow segmental ceiling and some 18th-century panelling. Several 18th-century panelled doors are also present.
