Description

The stables, coach house, and cottages at Charborough Park, located 150 meters west of the main house, date from the early to mid 19th century. Previously listed as the "Coachman's house and stabling," this group of buildings is arranged around a courtyard. The main block features projecting wings at each end, with brick walls and a dentil cornice at the eaves. The hipped slate roof is predominantly single-storey, except for a two-storey central block that has a pedimented gable topped with a timber arcaded bell turret, which has a hipped lead roof and wide eaves cornice. The rendered pediment includes a clock face surrounded by raised scrolls. Below the pediment, there are four round-headed windows with gauged arches and keystones on the first floor, and two coach house entrances with elliptical arches and keystones on the ground floor. The single-storey central range on either side features ledged doors with fanlights and pivoted windows with glazing bars.

At the east corner of the courtyard, there is a detached cottage with an attached stable that has been converted into a garage. This building has brick walls, a dentil cornice at the eaves, a hipped slate roof, and a brick end stack. It is two storeys high, with a panelled door under a moulded hood, two double-hung sash windows with glazing bars on the ground floor, and four similar windows on the first floor. The detached cottage at the south corner of the courtyard, now serving as the Estate Office, is designed in a similar style, featuring a flush panel door with a fanlight and double garage doors. The ground floor has three double-hung sash windows, while the first floor has four horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars. There is also a single-storey south extension made of brick and slate. At the north-east entrance to the courtyard, a pair of 18th-century ornamental iron gate piers has been reset.
