Description

No. 31, Easton Square is an early to mid-18th century house with a shop, situated at the end of a row. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with wide joints, featuring rusticated quoins and a concrete tile roof. It has a wide frontage, standing two storeys and an attic, with two windows. The windows are 4-pane sashes set within moulded stone architraves and wooden sills, topped with cyma-mould cornices. A full-width shop front was added in the late 19th century, featuring recessed glazed doors at the centre, backed by pilasters and a modillion cornice; this remains unaltered. The return gable on the right-hand side displays a small attic window on the left and a blocked window to the first floor on the right. Stone stacks with rough capping are present on each gable. The rear of the building has been extended, including a curved wall extending from the gable end. While the interior is not accessible, it is believed to have remained largely unaltered for a considerable period and to retain gas lighting brackets in the shop.
