Description

Rose Cottage is a detached cottage, with a reputed building date of 1631, although much of the fabric and detail dates from later periods. It has dressed stone walls and a Roman tile roof, with brick stacks set into both gables. The main range runs parallel to and is set back from the street, featuring a continuous outshut to the rear with rubble stone walls and a late 20th-century construction. The cottage is two storeys high with four windows, all replacements featuring 3-light wooden casements with wooden cills, along with two smaller 2-light casements. A plank front door, featuring studded muntins, is located to the left of centre, sheltered by a weatherboarded porch with a pentice roof and stone base. Alternatively, the cottage dates from around 1800. It has dressed stone walls and a Roman-tile roof, with brick stacks at the left and right hand gables. It is two storeys high with four windows, replacements featuring 3-light wooden casements with wooden cills, along with two smaller 2-light casements. A plank front door with studded muntins is situated to the left of centre, protected by a weatherboarded porch with a pentice roof on a stone base. A continuous outshut exists at the rear, built in the later 19th century with matching roofing and rubble stone walls. The cottage forms a group with Tudor Cottage and Old School House.
