Description
The Castle, which serves as a museum and art gallery, is an early 16th-century building constructed from hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features a tiled roof. It has two storeys and a moulded string course. The building includes a two-storey porch block with a four-centred arch on the ground floor that leads to a ledged door. The lower part of the porch is canted, while the upper part is square and supported by moulded squinches, similar to those found at Winterborne Clenston Manor. The windows are stone mullioned, with two, three, and five lights, each having slightly arched heads and relieving arches on the ground floor. The building underwent significant restoration following a fire in 1876.
