Description
The Manor House, including the front boundary wall, is a detached house located on the north side of High Street in Yetminster. It dates from the early 17th century, although it may incorporate some work from the 16th century. There is an early 19th-century block at the left end, which was built as a separate cottage. The house features rubble stone walls and a double Roman tile roof with coped gables, including a finial on the left gable. It has one brick stack at the right end and another near the left end. The building has an L-shaped plan with a projecting rear wing on the right side and is two storeys tall.
On the ground floor, there is a raised panel door from the 18th century in a moulded stone surround, leading into a cross-passage at the left end. The ground floor also has two five-light stone mullioned windows with diamond lead lights, positioned under a continuous string course that steps up over the windows, along with an oval window between them. The first floor features two two-light and two four-light similar windows, and there is a small twin arched window in the left gable.
The cottage at the left end is two storeys tall, set at a lower level, and has a slate roof with a coped gable and a brick end stack. Its ground floor includes a five-light timber mullioned window with diamond lead lights and a similar three-light window on the first floor.
Internally, the central ground floor room has a large stone four-centred arched fireplace and a compartmented ceiling with deep moulded beams, with joists spanning the panels in a basket fashion. There is a plank and muntin partition between this room and the right room, which has a compartmented ceiling with deep chamfered beams and an 18th-century fireplace surround. A partition at the rear has a slatted opening at a high level. At the foot of the stairs and the start of the adjoining passage, there are depressed timber ogee arches, with the one leading to the stairs featuring carving in the spandrils. A four-centred arched doorway is located at the rear of the cross-passage, leading to a rear corridor that originally connected to the centre room. Some deep chamfered ceiling beams can also be found on the first floor. The rear wing has jointed cruck trusses and features a large blocked fireplace with a lintel on the ground floor. There is a later outbuilding extension to this wing. The low front boundary wall is topped with simple iron railings.
