Description
Priors Cleve is a detached house dating from the early to mid-17th century, with additions made in the mid-20th century. The house is constructed of rubble stone with a stone slate roof, featuring coped gables and brick end stacks. The original front range is connected to two rear ranges, creating a square plan. The east front, originally the entrance front, now has a porch with a two-light stone mullioned window where a door once stood. The ground floor has two three-light stone mullioned windows with lead lights and hoodmoulds. Above them are two similar windows. Timber ionic pilasters extend to eaves level, flanking the porch. The current entrance is a re-used door located in the north wall of a rear wing, which was extended westwards in the 20th century in a matching style. Inside, one ground-floor room in the main range features a large, open fireplace with a curved timber lintel. There are also some deep, chamfered ceiling beams. The staircase includes 17th-century turned balusters and replacements. The interior has been altered, with some features re-set during past work.
