Description

Piper's Cottage is a house with an attached barn, dating from the 17th century. It features plastered cob walls and a thatched roof, with a brick stack. The original layout includes a two-room plan with a central cross-passage; the heated room is to the south and the unheated room to the north. A third room to the north is likely a later addition. The building is one storey with an attic.

The front elevation has a ledged door with a glass panel, and the ground floor includes two casement windows with cast iron lights, along with one modern metal casement. In the attic, there are two dormers with casements, one of which has cast iron lights. At the rear, there is a small single-storey lean-to with a tiled roof and a brick buttress on the rear wall. The barn features large double doors in the rear wall and a loft door at a high level in the south gable wall.

Inside, the fireplace in the south room has an oak lintel and jambs, and the ground floor rooms are supported by stop-chamfered oak beams with run-out stops.
