Description

Tonerspuddle Farm House is a farmhouse with origins dating back to the 16th century, according to the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England. The earliest part is the west range, which may have been part of a larger building. In the 17th century, the south end of this range was extended eastwards, creating a symmetrical south front. The angle between these two ranges was infilled in the 19th century and rebuilt around 1959.

The house is two storeys high with attics. The walls of the original and 17th-century ranges are partly made of brick and partly rendered, resting on stone bases. It has a slate roof with stone eaves courses and brick stacks. A modern block to the northeast has brick walls on a stone base and a flat roof with a parapet. The main south elevation features rendered walls, a modern central porch made of concrete blocks with a tiled roof, and a modern glazed door. The ground floor includes two 2-light stone mullioned windows with lead lights, while the first floor has three casement windows with glazing bars. A slight break in the wall to the west of the porch indicates a change in construction.

The west elevation has walls that are partly brick and partly rendered. There is a door opening with an elliptical ironstone arch, which appears to be from the 17th century but may have been re-set. The ground floor has two casement windows with glazing bars, and the first floor features three casement windows—one with lead lights, one with cast iron lights, and one with timber glazing. The interior of the original wing has been much altered. The ground floor room at the north end has two deep-chamfered ceiling beams, while the room at the south end on the first floor has a stone fireplace with a 4-centred arch. The roof structure over the original wing is of simple collar beam form.
