Description
The gate piers and boundary walls located to the north and west of St Peter's Church were built around 1875 and are made of Portland ashlar. The structure features a pair of gate piers that stand approximately 3.5 meters tall. These piers are large and square, resting on a moulded plinth and topped with heavy pyramidal caps on moulded pier heads. Each pier has small inset colonnettes at the corners. To the left of the piers, there is a series of stepped panels that rise to a saddle-backed coping with a roll-mould, and the plinth continues seamlessly with the piers. The wall, which also features panels, extends to the west behind the boundary wall of the Vicarage, connecting with the main boundary wall along Grove Road. These walls are significant as they contribute to the overall cohesion of the group of related buildings and help define the surrounding spaces.
