Description

Lower House Farmhouse, now two attached properties, dates from the 17th and 18th centuries, with later alterations. It features rubble-stone walls with stone quoins and a thatched roof with hipped ends. There are three brick stacks: one at each hip and one on top of the protruding front stack. The building has a cross-passage plan, with the protruding front stack located immediately to the right of the front door. It has been divided into two separate homes, each with its own entrance at the former rear of the house. Originally, it was designed in an L-plan with a cross-wing at the top end. The farmhouse has two storeys and six windows, which include modern casements with glazing bars in 2 and 3-lights, as well as three casements with small leaded panes. To the left of the stack, there is a flush-panelled door. Inside, there is a fireplace embrasure that is now blocked. The left end of the house is a one-bay extension of the original structure, and the windows feature 18th-century brick dressings. The exterior is half-rendered.
