Description

Hatchards Antiques is a 17th-century shop with living accommodation above, altered in the early 19th century. The building has rubble stone walls, some of which are plastered, and a stone slate roof. It features brick stacks at the left end and a stone stack at the right end. The building is one storey high with an attic. The shop front has a glazed door with an ornamental fanlight, flanked by a pair of bow shop windows with glazing bars. There is a blocked doorway and one casement window with glazing bars. The attic has two hipped dormers, each with a casement window featuring a horizontal centre glazing bar. One ground floor room contains a large open fireplace with moulded stone jambs and a moulded timber lintol. The building is documented in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, Dorset, Volume II, Monument 120.
