Description

Pickett Farmhouse is a Grade II* listed farmhouse that was formerly a Grange. It has a 15th-century core in the south range and a 17th-century west range. The building features rubble-stone walls and a slate roof with stone gable copings. The east elevation includes a brick stack at the left-hand gable and another at the right-hand front eaves. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has approximately three windows, which are three-light wooden and iron casements with glazing bars, wooden lintels, and cills, dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. The door, located left of centre, has nine flush panels and is accompanied by a reconstituted stone porch from the 20th century. The south gable end showcases barded stone and rubble walling, with blocked windows that feature two lights and trefoil-cusped heads with panel tracery. There is a pointed arch with a label above, dating to the 15th century. The north gable end has diagonal buttresses, also from the 15th century. The west range, which has a 17th-century core, includes window openings from that period, fitted with 20th-century casements.

Inside, the roof of the south range has an arch-braced collar-beam structure with end trusses, dating back to the 15th century, and consists of seven bays. It features two sets of through-purlins and the remains of two tiers of wind braces attached to the back of the purlins. Some studding and plasterwork remain, which originally divided off the roof space, suggesting it may have been a first-floor hall. An inserted fireplace is located on the south gable wall, featuring a very large flue.
