Description
Mandeville Stoke Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a core dating from the 15th century and a ceiling from the 16th century, along with later alterations. It features rubble stone and Bradstone walls, topped with a slate roof that has gable ends. The building is two storeys high and has a central brick stack on the ridge. There are three windows, which include two, three, and four-light wooden casements, some of which have leaded lights and old glass. The four-light window upstairs is from the 17th century. The front door, located at the right-hand end, is a plank door from the 20th century with a single light.
Inside, two jointed-cruck trusses remain, and there is a collar beam that shows possible smoke-blackening, indicating that it was originally an open-hall house. The large compartments have deep-chamfered beams from the 16th century. The fireplace lintel is cambered with a significant straight chamfer and filleted stops. Due to extensive rebuilding in the 20th century, the original layout of the farmhouse is not clear.
