Description
This is a terrace of six houses located on Wesley Street, dating from the early 19th century. The houses are built with Flemish bond brickwork, some of which is painted and some rendered, and they have slate roofs. Each house has two storeys and an attic, featuring one window. The original design, still visible in No. 5, included a two-light casement flat-roofed dormer above twelve-pane sash windows set in reveals with brick voussoirs. There is a six-panel door to the right, which is located under a painted fanlight in a brick arch supported by responds. The group retains the original dormer except for No. 10, and most windows have been replaced with non-conforming details, except for Nos. 8 and 9. The doors have also been replaced. A mid band remains on all houses except No. 10, and the only unpainted brick unit is No. 6. Each house has a ridge stack. The interior has not been inspected. Despite modifications, these modest artisan houses generally retain their original openings. At the time of the survey, No. 6 was being restored to its original detail, which could help preserve the integrity of the terrace if similar work is done on the other units.
