Description

Numbers 13, 14, and 15 Pulteney Buildings are a terrace of three houses, originally known as Nos. 7-9 Esplanade, built around 1850 to 1860. They are now two hotels. The buildings are rendered with slate roofs and feature a one-room width, double-depth plan with a central valley to the double mansard roof. They extend the adjacent Pulteney Buildings in the same scale and overall form, showcasing early Victorian detailing.

The exterior consists of three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with each house having two windows, all of which are sash windows. Each house features two gabled dormers with dropped finials and barge-boards over 6-pane sashes, although one dormer has a 2-light casement. Below the dormers are three-storey plain sash canted oriels with panelled skirts and small modillion cornices at each level. To the right of the oriels, there is a single 4-pane sash window at the second and first floors, situated above an arched opening in two orders that contains a 6-panel door and a plain fanlight, each accessed by five stone steps with nosings. The buildings have a moulded cornice, blocking course, and parapet. The oriels are set on a broad moulded base above a large basement light, and there are three pairs of rendered stacks with prominent cappings. The gable to the right is completely plain. Each house has a small gabled service wing at the rear. The main wall at the back includes a central gabled dormer similar to the front, a small 4-pane window above a first-floor canted oriel with a dentil cornice on a moulded bracket, and a deep 8-pane stair sash to its left. At the ground floor, there is a sash window along with a glazed door to No. 13. The interior has not been inspected.
