Description
Two sets of gate-piers and attached garden walls are located south and west of Clifton House. These structures date from the 18th century, with parts constructed in the early 20th century, specifically between 1906 and 1916. The gate-piers at the south entrance are made of ashlar stone and feature moulded cornices and ball finials. There is a low stone wall with coping-stones extending 5 metres to the east and 30 metres to the west. Brick walls with coping-stones run for 110 metres to the west, then return north for 100 metres, and finally return east for 110 metres to the house. The brick gate-piers on the west wall have stone pedestals and moulded stone cornices, with carved heraldic horse heads above the cornices, representing the Horsey family.
