Description
Dale House is a detached house set back in its garden, with the central block dating from around 1690 or 1700, which means it survived the fire of 1731. There are later additions on the sides and many alterations, likely including the relocation of the front door. The central block is two stories high with five windows, constructed of red brick with stone quoins. It has a hipped plain tile roof with stone slates near the eaves and hipped dormers that have probably been altered. A central chimney is surrounded by a flat roof, and there is a coved eaves cornice. The center bay of the front protrudes slightly, and the cove continues up the verges of a small gable, creating the appearance of an open pediment, similar to Ryve's Almshouses. The central first-floor window features a semi-circular head with imposts and a key. An oval stone window on the front may have been added later, replacing the original doorway, which is now located on the south side and has a segmental stone pediment dated 1689.
