Description
Holme Bridge is a six-span bridge over the River Frome, originating in the early 17th century. It was lengthened in the late 17th century, 18th century, and 19th century, with repairs made in 1956.
The earlier section of the bridge is constructed from limestone and car-stone, while the later additions feature parapets that were rebuilt in brick with stone copings in 1956. The oldest part includes three stone arches of two orders, with the central arch being higher and supported by plain piers. The northern arch, added in the late 17th century, is plain and made of stone, while the arch added in the 18th century is built in brick. The 19th-century arch to the south is constructed from stone with brick spandrels. The west parapet has five cut-waters, which also serve as refuges, whereas the east parapet has only two cut-waters.
