Description
This is a row of 18th-century terraced buildings on West Street. The buildings are constructed of red brick with yellow brick dressings and quoins, and have a mansard roof covered with tile. Stone slates are visible at the eaves, and there are late 19th-century red brick stacks. The buildings are two storeys high with an attic level. A moulded yellow brick cornice runs along the eaves. The facade has seven ranges of flush-framed, cased sash windows with glazing bars. A single cased sash window with glazing bars is present on the first floor of the South Street elevation (the east-facing side). Modern shop fronts have been installed. Six attic dormers are visible, each featuring tile-hung cheeks and a combination of sash and casement windows, some of which are modern reproductions with glazing bars. A stringcourse runs along the South Street elevation. Numbers 1 to 5 form part of a larger group of buildings running to number 29 on the odd numbers of West Street; number 29 is of local interest only.
