Description
Number 10 South Street is an 18th-century building made of colourwashed brick, featuring a pitched tile roof and red brick stacks. It has two storeys and attics, with a stone plinth and a modillion eaves cornice. The building includes three attic dormers with tile-hung cheeks and casement windows, two of which are Yorkshire-style. The centre of the building has a 19th-century projecting shopfront on a moulded plinth, with moulded window frames and a moulded cornice, adorned with statues of a lion and a unicorn. Above the shopfront are three mid-19th-century arched lights in a stucco surround, featuring a plain continuous impost block and moulded voussoirs. The first floor has three flush-framed sash windows with keystones. There are two contemporary doorways with panelled reveals and moulded surrounds that lead to modern recessed porches, along with one modern shop window. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 2 to 10 (even), The Unitarian Chapel, Nos 12 to 32 (even), and Holy Trinity Gallery.
