Description
This is a terrace of five houses located on Lennox Street in Weymouth. Built in the mid-19th century, the houses are constructed of broadmayne brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with painted stone dressings and slate roofs. The design is consistent throughout, although numbers 4 and 5 are a mirrored pair, with a straight joint to number 3 and minor variations. The building is a straight range with a front parapet, a hipped left end, and a gabled right end. Each house also features a 2-storey hipped rear range, except for number 2 which has a 3-storey rear range.
The exterior presents three storeys, with attics to numbers 4 and 5. All windows are 4-pane sashes. The second floor windows are distinguished by moulded stone architraves, supported by two brackets beneath the sills. Numbers 4 and 5 also have a small, flat-roofed dormer. Ground and first floors feature a canted bay with a cornice at each level, leading to a flat roof below a plat band, and with a further band at first-floor level. Original 2-panel doors are located to the left of each house (right of number 5), accessed by two or three stone steps, and are topped by a plain fanlight, with an arch on responds, a flush arch, and a keystone. The building includes a small plinth, moulded cornice, blocking course, and parapet, as well as four deep brick stacks with original clay pots. The gable ends are plain, and the rear ranges have 4-pane sashes, with a small dormer to numbers 4 and 5.
The interior has not been inspected. The terrace exemplifies the continuation of earlier 19th-century traditions in Melcombe Regis, maintaining similar proportions and details, while incorporating the characteristic bow window as a canted bay. The terrace remains largely unaltered externally.
