Description
Ivydene, located at No 46 West Allington, was built in 1836-1837 by John Knight of Lyme Regis for Harriet Colfox, a member of a prominent local family. The building is constructed of stucco and features a low pitch hipped slate roof with wide eaves supported by brackets. It is two storeys high and has two ranges of sash windows with glazing bars. Ivydene originally included a five-bay trellis verandah with a coved roof, which was partly glazed and had scalloped cresting, as well as a similar trellis porch. Nos 46-52 are believed to have been part of the same development, which is comparable to Nos 2-10 East Road and Nos 48-56 West Bay Road. Ivydene, along with No 42 Magdalen Almshouses and Nos 46 to 52, forms a group of buildings.
