Description
Stour View House is a Union Workhouse built in 1838 by L Vulliamy, following a plan by Kempthorne. The building is constructed from coursed and squared rubble, which is partially rendered, and features a slate roof with gable ends. There are rendered end stacks and two rendered stacks at the front eaves. The structure has a Y-shaped plan with some outbuildings that are partially demolished.
The west facade includes a central range that is three storeys high and has five bays, with a single storey range to the right and a 20th-century range to the left. The central range features sash windows with glazing bars throughout, although the middle bays of the first and second floors are blind. There is a central porch and a squared, dressed stone plinth. The right-hand range has a brick stack, a sash window to the left, and two wooden three-light casements to the right, all of which also have glazing bars.
